Senegalese-French short film Astel from director Ramata-Toulaye Sy won the H.C. Andersen Award for Best Short Film in the International Competition at the Academy Award® qualifying Odense Film Festival over the weekend. Three other winners qualified for Oscar consideration: Nest by Hlynur Pàlmason won the Best Danish Short Film Award, France’s The Seine’s Tears (Les Larmes De La Seine) by Yanis Belaid, Eliot Benard, Nicolas Mayeur, Etienne Moulin, Hadrien Pinot, Lisa Vicente, Philippine Singer and Alice Letailleur won the Børge Ring Award for Best Animation and Denmark’s The Game by Andreas Haubjerg won the Best Short Documentary Award.
With its launch in 1975, the Odense Film Festival is also Denmark’s oldest film festival. It is an alternative film festival, born with passion and creativity; a spirit that the festival has maintained and nurtured ever since. Moreover, the Odense Film Festival supports and celebrates the short film genre without compromise, but at the same time it is a festival for the audience, thus experiencing massive support from the locals in the town of Odense year after year.
