In Case You Missed It: 2022 Fall Festival Short Film Awards Part 2

Yellow Bread has gathered the awards of some of the fall’s most important festivals on the short film circuit in case you missed it. In this round: short films at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival, short films at the 2022 Festival du nouveau cinema (FNC) and short films at the 2022 Riga International Film Festival.

Short films at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival (5-16 October 2022)

The winners of the 2022 BFI London Film Festival were announced during an online ceremony by the jury presidents on the final day of the festival.

Short Film Award: I Have No Legs, and I Must Run by Yue Li (China)

The Short Film Competition jury was headed by producer and director Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor who was accompanied by film producer Sorcha Bacon, journalist Caspar Salmon and Maddy Probst, managing producer at Bristol Watershed.

Audience Award – Short: Drop Out by Ade Femzo (UK)

Short films at the 2022 Festival du nouveau cinema (FNC)

International Competition

Loup argenté for Best Short Film($5,000 cash) presented by the Directors Guild of Canada: Will My Parents Come to See Me by Mo Harawe (Germany/Austria/Somalia)

Special Mention: Twin Lakes Haven by Philbert Aimé Mbabazi Sharangabo

The International Short Film Competition jury was composed of Larissa Corriveau, Mélanie Demers and Colin Nixon.

National Competition

Grand Prix – Best Short Film ($10,000 in post-production services awarded by CineGround): Programme d’utilisation des patients standardisés by Yan Giroux (Canada)

Special Mention: Dhulpa by Kunsang Kyirong (Canada)

The jury of the National Short Film Competition was composed of Miguel Dias, Maike Mia Höhne and Céline Roustan.

People’s Choice Award for Best Short Film ($5,000 in film equipment rental awarded by SLA Location): Simo by Aziz Zoromba (Canada)

Les nouveaux alchimistes – Short Films

Best Animated Short Film awarded by TVPAINT (A professional license worth $1,900): Backflip by Nikita Diakur (Germany/France)

Special Mention: All My Scars Vanish in the Wind by Angélica Restrepo and Carlos Velandia (Colombia)

The AQCC jury Les nouveaux alchimistes – short films was composed of Mathieu Bédard, Orian Dorais and Justine Smith.

Rencontres pancanadiennes du cinéma étudiant

Grand Prix for Best Student Short Film (2 000$ grant awarded by Netflix and a research and creation residency in collaboration with the invited international school): Going Back to Meet the World by Santi Henderson (Simon Fraser University, Vancouver)

Prix Jeune Loup for Best Short Film (CEGEP students) ($1,500 in rental services awarded by Sony – Royal Photo): Avant de partir, repeins ma joue by Casandra G. Minisini and Marilou Labbé (Collège Lionel Groulx, Sainte-Thérèse)

The short films jury of the Rencontres pancanadiennes du cinéma étudiant was composed of Justine Baillargeon, Philippe Grégoire and Michel Wouters.

Short films at the 2022 Riga International Film Festival

International Short Film Competition: Asterión by Francesco Montagner (Czech Republic/Slovakia)

Special Mention: Sardine by Johanna Caraire (France)

Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards: Asterión by Francesco Montagner (Czech Republic/Slovakia)

The jury consisted of Anne Gaschütz, director of Filmfest Dresden and member of the selection committee for shorts at the Locarno Film Festival; Sander Joon, an Estonian animation director; and Inja Korać, a short-film curator at the Motovun and Beldocs festivals, and director of Industry at the Zagreb Film Festival.
